The picture to the left shows Scott at the very beginning of 2008 as he approached the Grand Prix season, so perhaps he can be forgiven the slightly apprehensive look. He certainly needn’t have been worried as the test sessions and first two races saw him running well to the fore against the best GP125 riders in the World. In fact at the first round in Qatar he made history by becoming the youngest ever rider to qualify on the front row of a GP and then, during the race, becoming the youngest ever rider to break a GP lap record and finally the youngest rider to finish in the first 6 in a Grand Prix !!
He continued to impress throughout the season making an impression at every Grand Prix, WINNING the British Grand Prix to become the youngest ever rider to win a Grand Prix. Finishing in eleventh place in the overall World Championship table to become Rookie of the Year in his class in the process, no less than 42 points in front of his nearest rival. He made the top ten in the National final of the BBC Young Sports Personality of the year and won the Western region final of the same. He was also awarded the prestigious Pinhard Trophy given to most outstanding rider under 21 in ANY sector of motorcycle sport. Let’s see what 2009 will bring.
