Scott Redding #45 - CEV Round 4
CEV ROUND 4 at the Valencia GP Circuit 28th / 29th July
As can often be the case the race that you have the most success in can often be the least eventful and such was the case at the Ricardo Tormo circuit just outside Valencia. Scott knows this circuit well, having ridden and practiced there on a number of occasions from as far back as 2005 with his rides on the Metrakit 80 in the Calypso Cup, the machine that gave him a complete series of 6 unbeaten rides.
The entry this time had not been capped as at the previous round and was split into two qualifying groups, one of 28 riders and the other 29. Scott and Stefan ended up in separate groups, each ending their individual sessions as fastest qualifier with Stefan being the faster overall. This gave pole grid position to Stefan with Scott in the number two slot on the front row. The team and riders finished Saturday in a good mood with great expectations for the following race day, and this time they were not to be disappointed.
Warm up on Sunday morning finished with Scott and Stefan the two quickest with less than 0.3 seconds between them. The race was a repeat of the same with Stefan leading every lap from start to finish but with never more than a few tenths between them all the way. At the finish the gap was just 0.035 with third placed rider Takaaki Nakagami over 7 seconds behind. The finishing positions may have been more than a little influenced by the fact that Stefan winning moves him to the head of the Championship table and word in Scott’s ear before the race started probably “asked” for him not to push too hard to win. With Scott not scoring points at round one, his chances of winning the overall title are much slimmer although this latest result puts him in joint fourth place only three points behind third. Good results in the last 3 rounds could see him finishing second or even winning if problems befall his other main rivals. We look forward to the next rounds although round 5 is, unfortunately, some way off.
A GREAT WEEKEND WITH THE SECOND ROSTRUM OF 2007
SCOTT ON THE SECOND STEP OF THE PODIUM FOLLOWED BY THE POST RACE INTERVIEW WITH SPANISH NATIONAL TV. WILL THAT BE WORLDWIDE TV NEXT YEAR ?
Scott and team mate Stefan Bradl were never separated by more than 0.40 seconds all race.
As the picture shows Scott pushed hard in qualifying to get his second space on the grid.
